Following the great success of the UCI's (Union Cycliste Internationale - cycling's international governing body) Cycling World Championships held in different regions of Scotland over the past couple of weeks, we were delighted to learn that the South of Scotland has been awarded the very prestigious UCI Bike Region Label. The UCI awards cities and regions which, not only host major UCI cycling events, but also invest in developing community cycling and related infrastructure and programmes, and recognises that the South of Scotland is establishing itself as Scotland’s leading cycling destination, with both Dumfries & Galloway and the Scottish Borders playing an integral role in the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships.
The Scottish Borders hosted the Mountain Bike Cross-country and Mountain Bike Cross-country marathon events during the World Championships and Dumfries and Galloway hosted the Paracycling World Road Championships.
The South of Scotland Cycling Partnership has launched a strategy which aims to ensure cycling becomes the most popular choice for shorter, everyday journeys by 2032 and has a ten point priority plan.
If you'd like to discover why the South of Scotland is a world-class destination for road biking, why not book a road cycling holiday on our Kirkpatrick Coast to Coast route, or our shorter Southern Scotland Coast to Coast route?
